The Church of Jesus Christ (The Church) embraces The
Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ, with officers, faith, doctrine and
ordinances established by Christ when He was upon the earth. The
beliefs of The Church are founded on the Holy Bible and the Book of
Mormon, which were written under inspiration from God, and present the
entire plan of salvation and the way of life that must be followed to be
saved in the Kingdom of Heaven.
The mission of
The Church of Jesus Christ, as directed by Jesus Christ, is to go
and teach all nations, baptize them in the name of The Father, The
Son and the Holy Ghost, and teach them to obey everything
commanded by Christ in the Holy Bible and the Book of Mormon.
The ordained officers
are Apostles, Evangelists, Elders (ministers), Teachers, Deacons and
Deaconesses, none of which are paid to administer the duties of their
offices. The Quorum of Twelve Apostles is responsible for the spiritual
oversight of The Church throughout the world. The Quorum of Seventy
Evangelists is responsible to proclaim the plan of salvation at home and
abroad.
The Church,
international in scope, has two General Conferences each year. They are
held in April and October at the World Conference Center in Greensburg,
Pennsylvania. The President of The Church and his two counselors
preside over the conferences and over The Church between conferences to
facilitate effective operations.
The Church is
established for the worship of Almighty God and his Son Jesus Christ.
It is completely independent and is not affiliated with any other
religious group. The Church presents itself as the true succession of
the Gospel as restored by God through Joseph Smith, Jr. from 1820 to
1830. After the death of Joseph Smith, Jr. in 1844, the First Counselor
of The Church, Sidney Rigdon, moved from Nauvoo, Illinois to Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania. The Church was organized in July, 1862 with William
Bickerton as its leader. The Church was officially incorporated, with
headquarters at Monongahela, Pennsylvania, on April 5, 1941.
